Established in 1955 as the first department researching public administration in Korea, KUPA has raised numerous talented graduates in the public sector.
KUPA has held the highest ratings among all public administration departments in Korea from the major rating agencies.
In 2015, KUPA celebrated its 60th anniversary and was chosen as a team in the largest national research project, Brain Korea 21 Plus. As of 2016, 18 members of the faculty and about 700 students are striving to concentrate on their research and education of public administration in KUPA

1955 Established as the first department researching public administration in Korea
1960 Set up the Institute for Public Affairs
1981 Changed its affiliation from the College of Law to the College of Political Science and Economics
1984 Completed the building of College of Political Science and Economics
1988 Expanded and reorganized the Institute for Public Affairs
1993 Published the academic journal named <Public Administration and Policy>
1998 Reorganized the institute for Public Affairs as the Institute of Governmental Studies
1999 Changed the name of the journal as <Governmental Studies>
2005 Celebrated the 50th anniversary
2006 Participated in the 2nd phase of Brain Korea 21 project
2009 Ranked as the highest institution in Brain Korea 21 project
2012 Reshuffled the affiliated research centers in the Institute of Governmental Studies
2015 Professor Jae ho, Yeom elected as the 19th president of Korea University
Celebrated 60th anniversary

2016 MOU for academic exchange with Sol Price School of USC
